SPRING IS HERE!!

Cherry Trees are blossoming!

Reminds me of the Van Gogh painting that i used to have hanging over my bed in London!
It is my favourite Van Gogh painting, don´t bring me Sunflowers, don´t bring me cut hears, i just want some cherry trees!
I could stay hours loooking at it, it is so relaxing and with such beautiful colors, it must have been made in a time that Van Gogh was in peace with himself, the poor tormented soul!

I remenber that the last time i was at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, there was an open evening with some theatre. Me and a friend waited and waited, as we did´nt have time to go somewhere else and then go back to the museum. More people arrived, and soon the room was full with no more sitting left. Our only enternaiment, as we didn´t want to leave our precious chair, was to look at the amazing ceiling where there was some moving images of the paintings and sometimes of us sitting down there. This until our neck started aching badly. When finally the show started. after maybe one hour and a half of waiting, to our despair it was all in Dutch, arrrrgh!

Birds are singing, the sun is shinning, feel like wearing fluid, long summer dresses!
Love the Boho Hippie style of long summer dresses

Lisboa Fashion Week

It has been 20 years of this event! Happy Birthday!
It all started in 1991 as a way of showing portuguese fashion designers and in overall the growing fashion industry.

I went to see the show of Lidija Kolovrat (got the invitation from my fashion design teacher)
I have to say i did not know the designer and it really did not do anything for me... in short words i did not like it.
Why? Well it was hard to watch the show confortably, unless you were in the front row, you could not see the bottom part of the clothes and models. It should have had a rised catwalk or other sort of sitting. The clothes themselves looked as if done by a college student, it had some impressive craft work with all the leather leaves but looked outdated. And the "cherry on the bottom of the cake" was a fur jacket and other   elements with fur. I am not a vegetarian or that i think that animals should not be killed but i am 100% against using real animal fur in clothing.
I also have to say that in the pictures of the show, the clothes look better.
Can clothes be photogenic as some people are?

Anyway, i don´t want to sound too negative, good luck to the designer!
I really liked the atmosphere, we need some shows like these to see well-dressed (or not...) people walking in Lisbon!

Paper Dolls

Dress by Jolis Paons
Having to do some 3D paper dolls for my Drawing Classes, I came across some really interesting research on paper clothes.
Here are some pictures with amazing examples of what can be done with paper, some of it as a way of recycling and even some haute couture as done by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel Haute Couture!
This are from a Page I have on my facebook and it is really good, full of design ideas from a vast spectrum of arts, from Lifestyles and Trends, Interior Design, Architecture, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Automotive Design, Fashion Design, Art, Photography, Sculpture and it is constantly updated.

Here are the Channel Paper Hats, 2009 Collection
Mr Karl Lagerfelt and his amazing creation

I have also came across this amazing blog with really beautiful Paper Craft

Another sample of what can be done with paper, is the beautiful dress made by Louise Goldin
Louise Goldin made this dress for the London Fashion Week 2010
There is also the video showing how it is done... Maybe a future project for myself?

All this is very pretty but at the end what I need to do is simply a doll in one piece of paper that will be able to stand on its own.
Here is an example of the type of work
This an example of a mexican paper doll

And here are my ones almost finished!
Here in flat position:

Here they are standing up, now they just need a make-up re-touch and a few more details on their dresses and they are ready!
