Paper Dress Project - The Start of It!

I have based my research and inspiration in the shapes and forms of Sculpture and Architecture

These are photographs by Werner Schnell, I have tried to know a bit more about him or the sculptures but no luck on information.

I have also looked at this amazing sculpture by Tonkin Liu Architects.

This is a musical sculpture by Tonkin Liu architects outside of the city of Burnley in northern England. When the wind whips through the galvanized steel pipes, it sounds like whale song. Amazing

This Biomorphic Buildings were created by the Design team Chimera. They conceived  an incredible series of spiraling skyscrapers for New York’s Hudson Yards. The skyscraper’s structure is modeled after mangrove trees, spiraling plant growth patterns, and the interaction of natural ecosystems.

Named Mangal City, the project is an “urban ecological system” composed of modular pod capsules that shift to adapt to environmental and contextual conditions.

The project was designed by Pierandrea Angius, Alkis Dikaios, Thomas Jacobsen, and Carlos Parraga-Botero and is a thesis proposal for the Masters of Architecture in Parametric Urbanism program at the AASchool of Architecture in London. According to the designers, “our vision is to define an urban ecosystem which supports housing and cultural programs and has the ability to adapt, transform, mutate and adjust according to the specific urban and social character of the site

Then I have started to experiment with 1/4 scale model
Drawing the pattern into card
This will be the base of the dress. A one-shoulder, knee length dress.

And now a yummy sweet before all the work begins...

New Project.... Paper Dress!

Well we have done the paper doll, then the hat and finally we get to the dress.
It will be done only with paper or related materials, same as for the hat. It will have to fit a real model or myself.... lots of work to be done, lots of glue, folding and despair, maybe!!!!

Here we go!
Starting with some inspiring ideias, not necessarily made with paper:
Very Colourful dress made with ballons!!
How can they not pay attention to such a display of colour

Another cute ideia using those ugly laundry bags!
"The White Cashmere Collection" is a fashion competition, organized by Cashmere, a Canadian brand of toillet paper.
The contest happens every year since 2004, and it consists of making a garment or fashion acessory, such a hat, made only with their toillet paper.
A lot of canadian fashion designers, some already well established enter the competition. A selection is made and then it is the public who vote for their favorite design.
With every vote, one canadian dollar is donated to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, and they also donate 5000 canadian dollars on behalf of the winner. That´s why a lot of pink is used, and with something fun and creative they raise awareness to such a disease.
Ines Di Santo was the winner of the 2010 competition
 Other entries, with amazing work...
Katrina Tuttle - love the paper pompom on the shoe

Orange, by Angela Chen, it is my favourite with all the detailed work.

Paris Li, love the paper juxtaposition and once again those adorable shoes!
The following are from the 2009 Competition...
Anastasia Lomonova, hat-dress-shoes, every detail beautifully done

Patricia Fieldwlaker, even the neclace is with paper, and those shoes...love it
