New Project.... Paper Dress!

Well we have done the paper doll, then the hat and finally we get to the dress.
It will be done only with paper or related materials, same as for the hat. It will have to fit a real model or myself.... lots of work to be done, lots of glue, folding and despair, maybe!!!!

Here we go!
Starting with some inspiring ideias, not necessarily made with paper:
Very Colourful dress made with ballons!!
How can they not pay attention to such a display of colour

Another cute ideia using those ugly laundry bags!
"The White Cashmere Collection" is a fashion competition, organized by Cashmere, a Canadian brand of toillet paper.
The contest happens every year since 2004, and it consists of making a garment or fashion acessory, such a hat, made only with their toillet paper.
A lot of canadian fashion designers, some already well established enter the competition. A selection is made and then it is the public who vote for their favorite design.
With every vote, one canadian dollar is donated to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, and they also donate 5000 canadian dollars on behalf of the winner. That´s why a lot of pink is used, and with something fun and creative they raise awareness to such a disease.
Ines Di Santo was the winner of the 2010 competition
 Other entries, with amazing work...
Katrina Tuttle - love the paper pompom on the shoe

Orange, by Angela Chen, it is my favourite with all the detailed work.

Paris Li, love the paper juxtaposition and once again those adorable shoes!
The following are from the 2009 Competition...
Anastasia Lomonova, hat-dress-shoes, every detail beautifully done

Patricia Fieldwlaker, even the neclace is with paper, and those shoes...love it

Paper Hats 3 - At last the Hat! (in progress)

Started by constructing a base for the hat.
Just wanted a small base for the hat, something very contemporary, summery and English!
I have tried to recycled all the bits and pieces of paper i had...and this is the structure.

Now the structure has been covered by a Kriss-Kross mat made of paper from an old telephone book.
And the first flower is on!
The structure is covered in and out...

And voila...
Now i just need a model to test it on...

Meanwhile, i think i will just have a slice of this yummy looking chocolate cake!

More research on hats and paper crafts...
I came across this amazing work and new trend: LEGO Trend

This the work of fashion designer JC de Castelbajac, a french designer. His references were as varied as  African tribal accessories, holidays in the south of France and iconic 80’s design, the Moschino’s spliced pocket jacket.

Castelbajac introduces Lego’s to the high fashion world with these Lego inspired New Era fitted hats. The fitted hat features a 80’s inspired color-scheme, and a mohawk all composed from Lego’s.

Fergie from Black Eyed Peas appeared at the Nickelodeon’s 24th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday, April 2, 2011. She was wearing an amazing and super cool dress and accessories made of legos.
How amazing is this in this times of recession?

Amy Butler, the american artist, designer and fabric guru also has really cute fabric kind of hats/hair acessories in her new Spring/Summer Collection

Another artist with a really impressive work is the french Maryse Dugois, a french designer and illustrator. All her objects are made of paper, some are the photographed and used as illustration for books and magazines.

More research...
I came across this really cute little girl´s dress made out of envelopes

And little shoes made out of maps...how cute is that?

Or how beautiful can be a simple white paper flower...

Or maybe a natural, pink rose for inspiration...
 Or a green one?
Or maybe all of them!

PROJECT 2 - Paper Hat, based on the Ascot Hats

Ascot is the world’s most famous Racecourse.
Over the past 300 years Royal Ascot has established itself as a national institution and the centrepiece of the British social calendar as well as being the ultimate stage for the best racehorses in the world.

It was Queen Anne who first saw the potential for a racecourse at Ascot, which in those days was called East Cote. Whilst out riding in 1711, she came upon an area of open heath, not far from Windsor Castle, that looked an ideal place for “horses to gallop at full stretch”.

The Gold Cup remains the feature race of the third day of Royal Ascot and is traditionally the busiest day of the week. It is colloquially known as “Ladies’ Day” as, in the formative years, it was the dominant day in terms of the racing, attracting the largest crowds and, it must be assumed from the emergence of the term “Ladies’ Day,” more ladies and lots of HATS!

The Queen Mother and Princess Margaret at Ascot

Her Majesty The Queen, as an owner and breeder of racehorses takes a keen interest in the races. Over the years The Queen has had great success with her own horses.

The Jockeys riding Her Majesty's horses can be distinguished because they wear The Queen's racing colours. These are the same as those of King Edward VII and George IV as Prince Regent - purple body with gold braid, scarlet sleeves and black velvet cap with gold fringe.

The Queen traditionally presents the Gold Cup, which, along with the Royal Hunt Cup and The Queen's Vase.

Ascot Dress Code (Anti-Chavs!)
Even if you are a Royal there´s no way you getting in dressed like that!
Premier Admission Dress Code
Both ladies and gentlemen are asked to dress in a manner appropriate to a smart occasion. Many gentlemen wear a shirt and tie with a jacket or suit. Please note that blue jeans, shorts, t-shirts and sports attire (including football and rugby shirts, sweatshirts and trainers) are not permitted.
Grandstand Admission Dress Code
Whilst we encourage racegoers to wear smart clothes no formal dress code applies except that bare chests are not permitted at any time.
"Sorry Love, you too chav, I’m afraid you have to leave, before the Queen sees you!!"

Royal Ascot: Here cames the Hats

Her Majesty’s Representative wishes to point out that only formal day dress with a hat or substantial fascinator will be acceptable. Off the shoulder, halter neck, spaghetti straps and dresses with a strap of less than one inch and miniskirts are considered unsuitable. Midriffs must be covered and trouser suits must be full length and of matching material and colour.

Gentlemen are required to wear either black or grey morning dress, including a waistcoat, with a top hat. A gentleman may remove his top hat within a restaurant, a private box, a private club or that facility’s terrace, balcony or garden. Hats may also be removed within any enclosed external seating area within the Royal Enclosure Garden.
